Lots of Evidence, Little Hope

In the Philippines, ex-President Rodrigo Duterte had declared the fight against drugs – by all means. Thousands of people have been shot dead during his tenure, many of them poor. The families of the victims are now demanding justice.

“Here they knelt on the ground and begged that there would be no shooting,” says Lea Nervar, pointing behind the metal door of a one-story house on the outskirts of the Philippine capital Manila, where she still lives today. “The men were masked and wore hoods. My friend Wesley and his father didn’t know what it was about. But the men didn’t argue and they started shooting.” The then 17-year-old stood right next to her when two of her loved ones died.
